What if the Amazon were a website?

the project
We use websites everyday. Apparently, we really care about those things.
What if Google, Instagram, Twitter went over?
What if it was the Amazon?

the challenge
This project was created for the Linkedin Accelerator Program Brazil. During a month I took the challenge of creating a version of what would it be if the Amazon Rainforest were a website.
The result is an invitation to us to think about what we should really care about.

my role
User Interface and User Experience Design.
Concept, research, prototypes, patterns, and anything else.

timeline
As part of the Linkedin for Creators program, I had one month to create a final prototype from scratch, including research and all other aspects of the project. Throughout the process, I shared every step on my Linkedin account.

research
How do people perceive The Amazon? How do they feel about it?
As a way to truly understand what is The Amazon through the eyes of other people, I've talked with several of them.

some (not so) cool data
The Amazon elicits a range of emotions from people. While it is a rich and significant resource, many problems are associated with it. In Brazil, people are generally aware of its importance. Despite this, feelings of hope and sadness may arise when thinking about the Amazon.

competitive analysis
As a web version of the Amazon is a unique concept, there are no direct competitors. However, people recall various brands and personalities associated with the subject. I created this big database on Notion with all references that were mentioned during the research process.

user flow, sitemap, and wireframes
As a way to go from research to to real thing, I started with sketches and all the crazy ideas I've got. Additionally, I developed a sitemap and several user flows to better understand how users might interact with the website.

typography
The Amazon is too rich, for this reason, I chose a more basic typography for the entire interface: Work Sans. I didn't want that the typography called more attention than the Amazon itself. As a way to create differentiation I have applied different font sizes and a typography scale for titles and body.

colors
It's hard to define The Amazon with a single color. On the other hand, same as typography, I didn't want a lot of colors, this way pictures would always stand out.
My option was to go with two tones of green as primary and secondary colors, red to represent danger and "nine tones of trees" as the neutral colors.

what if the Amazon were a website?
If the Amazon were a website, it would be represented by all of its diversity, from people to plants and animals. Furthermore, the "sad" aspects of it, like deforestation and animals at risk, would be constantly remembered as a way to call attention to them.

audio and dynamic controls
The Amazon is not merely a collection of data, but a living and breathing entity that demands a rich and engaging experience for its users. To enable this, we have created a myriad of interactive features, including seamless navigation, immersive audio, dynamic controls, and more.

the process
As a way to bring the Amazon Rainforest to live diverse tools were used. It all began with a sketch on paper, which evolved into an interactive prototype through the use of various software such as Adobe XD, After Effects, Photoshop, and more.

the best (and the worst) of The Amazon
The Amazon is wonderful. Unfortunately, not everyone knows how to enjoy this beauty. Apart from its benefits, the Amazon Rainforest suffers from diverse problems, from deforestation to illegal mining. The status page is the place for all forest guardians to denounce, follow, and help us make sure the Amazon Rainforest will be respected, as it should be.

gamification and sharing
To enhance the user experience, gamification elements have been added, allowing users to collect animals and plants, unlock achievements, and compete with friends. By doing so, users can enjoy exploring the Amazon and learn more about it in a fun and interactive way.

the Amazon goes live
What about a reality show of your preferred animals? By sharing images from the cameras around the forest biologists can count on the community to help them in keeping track of everything that is happening. Plus, you can watch lives from your preferred animals, and even symbolic adopt them, the money goes to causes that help the forest.

The End!
